Ink-dependent Figures

To ease the design process or to know if a given structure would be printable, key points and limit values for each Pinting solution are shown here.

Parameter description

  • Printable Volume [μm3]: Maximum metal volume printable due to the limited reservoir capacity of 1 µl.
  • Voxel Diameter [μm]: Lateral diameter of the voxel and equivalent to the resolution. A smaller voxel will result in thinner and sharper features but also longer printing times.
  • Voxel Height [μm]: Height of each voxel.
  • Voxel Volume [μm3]: Cylindrical volume obtained by combining the voxel height and diameter.
  • Printable Voxels [#]: Lifetime of the tip under normal circumstances. Negative voxel deflections (metal growing around or inside the tip) or large positive deflections (collisions) tend to greatly reduce the lifetime of a tip.
  • Voxel Printing Speed [voxels/s]: Number of voxels that can be printed per second. Limited by reaction time of the positioning system.
  • Printing Time [hours]: Maximum time for a continous print. It is influenced by many factors, such as the evaporation of the electrolyte, the tip lifetime, the crystallisation of the ink in the reservoir.
  • Volumetric Printing Speed [μm3/s]: Or throughput, amount of volume that can be deposited each second.

  • Printing Speed [μm/s]: Average speed of metal depositon in the vertical direction. Note that for complex geometries and for lateral growth the value can change due to the complexity of the secondary deposition.

Note

For all subsequent figures, all values in green can be accessed under normal circumstances. Values in orange only can be obtained under certain circumstances.
